FAQs

Is teletherapy an option for all of my students' needs?

Most students are a candidate for teletherapy. We have experience providing online speech therapy to preschoolers all the way up through high school. In our experience, only a small minority of students were not candidates for teletherapy and this concern was discussed with the district. Seagull Speech provides solutions to these rare cases. In many cases, consultation was provided to a staff member to implement strategies to meet goals; this occurred in real time with the student, staff member and SLP communicating online.

Will my students see the same progress from teletherapy compared to "in person" or "table top" therapy?

Teletherapy is provided with the same level of expertise, professionalism and respect for our code of ethics, state and federal laws as "table top" therapy. The only difference is the delivery method. When careful planning for technology and the environment has been put into this delivery method, the sessions are very successful. Ours students regularly progress and meet their goals. Additionally, there are numerous studies that indicate that teletherapy can be just as effective as "table top" therapy. We are happy to share these studies with you!

Can you conduct speech evaluations?

Yes, we are fully equipped with standardized testing for online use. Due to the popularity of teletherapy, more and more companies are standardizing their tests for online use. To get a complete picture, we combine standardized testing with informal measures, as well as information from parents and teachers. We have been conducting full online speech evaluations for years and are very confident that it will give us the right information we need to develop optimal goals and objectives.

How do I know if the technology will work?

We use a HIPAA compliant platform with excellent connection. Good technology is the foundation for a good therapy session, so the focus can be solely on delivering speech therapy. We also ensure the technology connection is successful prior to beginning intervention with your students.

Can your SLPs attend IEP meetings? Staff meetings? Complete IEP documentation?

Just like a typical SLP in the school building, our SLPs regularly meet these expectations. We strive to build relationships with school staff and regularly consult with all team members. The team approach with open lines of communication are essential for student progress.

Can you assist us with evaluations only or coverage for temporary leave?

Yes, we are happy to support your district in any way we can!
